ACTION NAME: Outdoor Activities

DESCRIPTION

1. What activities that is offered by the college must, by necessity, utilise staff interests and qualifications, however, the college and the outdoor department should encourage staff to offer as broad a spectrum of activities as possible.

2. Increase staff training in different outdoor activities but especially in general outdoor skills and enable individuals to gain important experience.

3. To ensure continuity key activities need to be prioritized

4. Staff should continue to be internally and/or externally trained to be qualified to take students on outdoor activities.

5. The major outdoor activity that we have been focusing on lately is kayaking where the strategy has been to educate students to be qualified enough to take other students kayaking. More staff have been trained and/ or taken external courses. Kayaking as an outdoor activity is now very popular and many students are interested in doing it either on short trips or for longer multi day trips. In the future we need to look at ways to keep the activity and interest of both students and staff high.

6. Climbing has for many years been a very popular activity at the college, lately however it has declined in popularity. We need to encourage more students to be involved, possibly by trying to use same strategy as for kayaking.

MEASURABLE GOALS
1. Increase in activity in the outdoor activities and the demand for different activities from what we do today
2. For staff to being qualified to fill the demand for outdoor activities

4. Continue to train staff internally within the time available and, if need be, send some away on external courses.
